The Conversational Companion

What is the new service?

Imagine having an expert on Joel Goldsmith’s work available at any time to answer your questions about The Infinite Way message or how to apply it in your life. Imagine that this expert has access to the complete, authentic library of Joel’s work—all the books and all the transcripts—and within seconds, can find information relevant to your specific question and respond to you in a clear and personal way. Beyond that, imagine that this expert speaks thirty-eight languages and can converse fluently in all of them.

The Conversational Companion is a new service from Acropolis Books that functions like such an expert. The Companion allows you to ask any question about Joel Goldsmith’s Infinite Way message in natural, everyday language and receive an answer that draws solely from Joel’s complete, authentic library of books and transcripts. It is not a simulation of Joel, nor a “digital Joel,” and does not respond as if it were Joel. Rather, it is a knowledgeable guide, always available to help you explore and apply Joel’s teaching in a personal way.

Why is Acropolis Books offering this service?

Acropolis has always been committed to preserving Joel’s message and making it available in the most up-to-date formats, keeping pace with emerging technologies so the message can reach every generation of students. The earlier Electronic Library Search (ELS) was a valuable step forward, but it was limited to keyword searches and often produced incomplete or overwhelming results. The Conversational Companion uses semantic search, which understands questions as they are asked and responds with curated answers. The ELS remains useful for finding exact phrases, but the Companion expands the possibilities for meaningful dialogue and study. The two resources complement one another.

How does it improve the student experience?

The Companion accesses the entire library of Joel’s authentic works to answer your questions. It can help new students build a strong foundation in Infinite Way principles and practices, and can support experienced students in delving deeper into the message, clarifying difficult points, and gaining new insights.

The Companion supports independent study. A conversation can spark new insights, draw attention to previously unknown references, bring to mind some forgotten aspect of the message, introduce fresh ideas, or prompt new questions. It can even offer suggestions for contemplation or a daily touchstone quote.

The Conversational Companion provides a private, personal account for each user. All your conversations are stored in your account, allowing you to revisit past conversations or resume a previous one. You can download any conversation for printing or storage on your own device, and of course, you always have the option to delete any conversation.

Acropolis recognizes that the true goal of the Infinite Way is not knowledge, but the realization of Christ consciousness—union with God. The Companion can guide and inspire, but it always reminds students that real progress comes only through practicing the principles, engaging in the practices, and most importantly, doing the silent, inner work.

Why not use a free public tool instead?

Publicly available, free semantic search products draw information from across the Internet. In our testing, they often produced inaccurate answers, mixed Joel’s teachings with unrelated sources, or even relied on sources that violate copyright protections.

By contrast, the Conversational Companion draws exclusively from Joel’s authentic works when answering questions about The Infinite Way. Unlike many free tools, it does not use your questions for profiling, tracking, or advertising.

Furthermore, the Companion can provide specific references to the books or transcripts used to curate the response to a question. Publicly available conversational search tools can do this only on a limited basis because they do not have access to the complete and authentic library of Infinite Way books and transcripts.

The rapid growth and increasing availability of these free products are other reasons Acropolis is introducing The Companion. We recognize the importance of providing a carefully developed, trusted alternative that embraces the new technology while ensuring that only Joel’s authentic work is referenced.

What kinds of questions can I ask?

You can ask about anything related to the Infinite Way, such as its principles and practices, specific classes or books, Joel’s interpretation of the Bible, spiritual healing, meditation, personal experiences and spiritual challenges, or how to apply the message to daily life or current events.

You can ask for suggestions for a contemplation or a “touchstone” quote for the day. You can also compare Joel’s teaching to other traditions, with the assurance that the Companion will always draw the portion about Joel’s teaching solely from his authentic works. For any response you receive from the Companion, you can request the specific references used to produce the response. And, because the Companion speaks thirty-eight languages, you can ask questions in your own language and receive answers in the same language.
